Born in Ehime Prefecture in 1957.
In 2006, he won the grand prize in the short story category of the 1st Yu Kaidan Literature Award for "The Child of Lumbini," and in 2007 made his debut with a collection of short stories with the same story as the title work. In 2017, he won the 70th Mystery Writers of Japan Award in the novel and short story series category for "The Fool's Poison." "Rapunzel of the Observatory," published in 2019, was ranked first in the "Best 10 of 2019 Selected by Book Magazine," and was nominated for the 33rd Yamamoto Shugoro Prize. In 2020, "Bonin Jodo" was nominated for the 23rd Oyabu Haruhiko Prize.
