As part of Sendai's war-damage recovery event, I wrote and performed it as the theme song for the program ``My Battle of Okinawa'' at the recitation performance ``Requiem no Fu'' vol.19, which is held every July in July, the year of the Sendai air raid.
The gruesome ground battle in Okinawa involved civilians and left many dead. Citizens with nowhere to go. Soldiers gathered from all over Japan. Soldiers who came from faraway countries and scattered. Thinking of the souls who would have wanted to go back to their respective homes, I composed a melody with a faint resemblance to ``Mozart's Lullaby,'' praying that they would rest in peace. Play slowly and with all your heart on Adagio.
The year 2020 marks 75 years since the end of the war. Precious lives suddenly lost due to the new coronavirus. Many people died in isolation without being cared for by their relatives. Dedicated to all the souls who would have wanted to return home alive.
