Instrumentation: 2 mandolins, mandola, mandoloncello, guitar, double bass

Composed by GF Handel Arranged by Kunisaku Sakai

Handel (1685-1749) was a German-born composer active at the same time as JS Bach, who later became a naturalized Englishman and composed operas and oratorios.

This piece is the opening aria of "Serse," Handel's first comic opera, published in 1738. Today it is often called "Handel's Largo," but the tempo marking in the original work is "Larghetto."

This arrangement was made for an encore piece at a concert about 20 years ago. It was not intended to reproduce the atmosphere of the original piece with a mandolin orchestra, but was arranged in a pop style so that it could be enjoyed as an encore piece, so the tempo markings at the beginning are completely different.

As for the performance, I think it will sound lighter if you play with picking, except for the parts where tremolo is specified.

Please enjoy!
