Montmorillonite, the raw material, is used in many art galleries and museums to control humidity for antiques and curios. It physically releases and absorbs its own moisture to maintain the ideal humidity for musical instruments. If the instrument has been in a high humidity state for a long period of time, dry it in the sun, and conversely, if it is dry, apply steam. It will return to the set humidity level and can be used all year round. Always use it in a closed case. Also, be sure to close the case after taking the instrument out of it.
